DIY - Make Your Own A1 Steak Sauce Recipe

Why buy, when you can make. This is a recipe that tastes just like A1 Steak Sauce. Give it a try and you will be amazed.


1/2  cups dark molasses
2 green onions, chopped
3 tablespoons of course salt (kosher or sea)
3 tablespoons of dry mustard
1 teaspoon of Paprika
1/4 teaspoon Cayenne pepper
1 Clove garlic, crushed or minced
1 teaspoon of  Garlic powder
1 Anchovy fillet, chopped
1 tablespoon of Anchovy paste
6 tablespoon of Fresh tamarind, or 1 tablespoon of Tamarind extract
1 teaspoon of Pepper
1/2  teaspoon of Fenugreek (Greek herb)
1/2  teaspoon of powdered ginger
1/2  teaspoon of ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon of powdered cloves
1/2  teaspoon of Caradamen seeds
3  drops of Tabasco sauce
6 ounces of Rhine wine
2 ounces Rose wine
1 pint of white vinegar
1 tablespoon of Kitchen Bouquet (browning and seasoning sauce)
1 tablespoon of Postum powder (powered beverage mixture)


Put all spices (except last 6 ingredients) through blender till fine powder.

Place over low heat with half vinegar and simmer 1 hr; adding rest of vinegar a little at a time as mixture is reduced in bulk. Stir in tabasco, wines, kitchen bouquet. Cook 3 min to dissolve. Remove from heat. Pour into crock or Tupperware container (2qt) Let stand covered for 1 week. Then strain thru cheese- cloth, six times.
bottle and cap tightly.

Keeps refrigerated indefinitely
